API Terms of Service

Effective Date: February 21, 2026  |  Last Updated: February 21, 2026

These API Terms of Service (“API Terms”) govern your access to and use of the @Filter Signals API (“API”). By subscribing to an API plan, generating an API key, or making any API request, you agree to be bound by these API Terms, the General Terms of Service, and the Privacy Policy. In the event of a conflict between these API Terms and the General Terms, these API Terms prevail with respect to API access.

1. Definitions

  • “API” means the @Filter Signals API endpoints, documentation, and related services made available at atfilter.com/api/v1/signals.
  • “API Key” means the unique authentication credential (prefixed atf_) issued to you upon subscription.
  • “API Data” means all data returned by the API, including aggregated keyword, geographic, domain, and time-series data.
  • “Subscriber” or “you” means the individual or entity that subscribes to an API plan.
  • “@Filter” or “we” means @Filter Inc.

2. Subscription and Billing

2.1 Plans

API access requires an active paid subscription. Plan details, including pricing, rate limits, and included features, are described on the Pricing page. @Filter may modify plan pricing or features with 30 days' advance notice; changes take effect at the start of your next billing cycle.

2.2 Auto-Renewal

Your subscription renews automatically at the end of each billing period at the then-current rate unless you cancel before the renewal date.
  • Monthly plans renew on the same calendar day each month.
  • Annual plans renew on the anniversary of the original subscription date.
  • You will be charged automatically using the payment method on file with Stripe.

2.3 Cancellation

  • You may cancel at any time from your Account page or via the Stripe billing portal.
  • Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period. You retain full API access until then.
  • Upon cancellation, your API key is revoked at the end of the billing period.

2.4 Refunds

No refunds are provided for partial billing periods. If you cancel mid-cycle, you continue to have access for the remainder of the period you have already paid for. If you believe you were charged in error, contact support@atfilter.com within 14 days of the charge.

2.5 Failed Payments

If a renewal payment fails, we will attempt to charge your payment method up to 3 additional times over 14 days. If all attempts fail, your subscription is cancelled and your API key is revoked.

3. API Key Security

  • Your API key is confidential. You are solely responsible for all activity that occurs using your key.
  • Do not share, publish, or embed your API key in client-side code, public repositories, or any publicly accessible location.
  • If you suspect your key has been compromised, immediately regenerate it from your Account page. The compromised key is revoked instantly.
  • @Filter is not liable for unauthorized use of your API key.
  • Each subscription includes one active API key. Generating a new key automatically revokes the previous one.

4. Permitted Use

You MAY use API Data for:

  • Academic and scientific research
  • Journalistic reporting on trends and patterns
  • Market and sentiment analysis
  • Internal business intelligence
  • Published reports and visualizations, provided they include the required attribution (see Section 5)

5. Attribution Requirements

When publishing, displaying, or distributing API Data or derivative works based on API Data, you must include the following attribution:

Required attribution:

“Data source: @Filter / @Map (atfilter.com). Data reflects anonymous, aggregated user filtering behavior.”

Attribution must be reasonably visible and proximate to the published data or visualization.

6. Prohibited Use

You MAY NOT:

  • Re-identify individuals. Attempt to link, correlate, or de-anonymize API Data with any other dataset to identify individual users.
  • Resell or redistribute raw data. Sell, license, sublicense, or provide bulk access to raw API Data to third parties. You may publish derivative analyses and reports.
  • Targeted advertising. Use API Data for targeted advertising, profiling, or surveillance of individuals or groups.
  • Discriminatory purposes. Use API Data to discriminate against individuals or groups based on protected characteristics.
  • Misrepresent data origin. Present API Data as your own original data, editorial assertions, or factual claims made by you rather than aggregated user behavior.
  • Circumvent rate limits. Use multiple accounts, automated registration, or any technique to circumvent rate limits, quotas, or access controls.
  • Reverse engineer. Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code or algorithms of the API.
  • Compete. Use API Data to build or operate a directly competing product or service without prior written authorization.

7. Nature of API Data

API Data reflects anonymous, aggregated user filtering behavior. It does not represent editorial claims, endorsements, or factual assertions by @Filter, @Map, or @Filter Inc.
  • Data shows what @Filter users collectively choose to filter. It does not indicate that any individual, organization, or topic deserves to be filtered, ranked, or otherwise evaluated.
  • All data points include statistical noise applied through differential privacy protections (noise injection, k-anonymity with a minimum of 100 users per data point). Numbers are approximate and should not be cited as exact figures.
  • @Filter makes no representations about the accuracy, completeness, timeliness, or meaning of aggregated patterns.
  • API Data is best used alongside other information sources and should not serve as the sole basis for decision-making.
  • You agree not to present API Data as definitive proof, exact measurements, or editorial endorsements.

8. Rate Limits and Fair Use

  • Each plan includes a monthly request quota. Exceeding the quota returns 429 Too Many Requests until the next billing period.
  • @Filter reserves the right to throttle or suspend access if usage patterns indicate abuse, automated scraping at excessive rates, or systematic attempts to extract the full dataset.
  • Rate limit headers are included in API responses. You are expected to implement appropriate backoff and retry logic.

9. Service Availability

  • @Filter targets high availability but does not guarantee uninterrupted access. The API is provided on a best-effort basis.
  • Planned maintenance windows will be communicated via email to active subscribers when feasible.
  • @Filter may modify, deprecate, or discontinue API endpoints with 30 days' notice. If an endpoint is discontinued, we will provide migration guidance.
  • Data freshness depends on user activity. Some time windows or geographic regions may have limited data if user adoption is low in that area.

10. Intellectual Property

  • @Filter retains all rights, title, and interest in the API, API Data, documentation, and all related intellectual property.
  • Your subscription grants you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to access and use API Data solely for the permitted purposes described in Section 4, subject to the restrictions in Section 6.
  • You may not use @Filter or @Map trademarks without prior written consent, except for the required attribution in Section 5.

11. Privacy and Data Protection

  • API Data is aggregated and anonymized. It does not contain personal data as defined under GDPR, CCPA, or comparable privacy laws.
  • Your account information (email, billing details) is processed as described in our Privacy Policy.
  • You agree to comply with all applicable privacy and data protection laws in your use of API Data. If your jurisdiction classifies any API Data as personal or sensitive data, you bear sole responsibility for ensuring lawful processing.

12. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability

12.1 Disclaimer of Warranties

THE API AND API DATA ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT.

12.2 Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, @FILTER'S TOTAL LIABILITY ARISING FROM OR RELATING TO THESE API TERMS SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNTS PAID BY YOU IN THE 12 MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM.

IN NO EVENT SHALL @FILTER BE LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES, OR GOODWILL, REGARDLESS OF THE THEORY OF LIABILITY.

12.3 Specific Exclusions

Without limiting the above, @Filter is not liable for:

  • Decisions made based on API Data, including financial, editorial, or business decisions
  • Third-party claims arising from your publication or distribution of API Data or derivative works
  • Inaccuracies, gaps, or noise in aggregated data (which is an intentional privacy protection feature)
  • Unauthorized access to your API key resulting from your failure to secure it
  • Service interruptions or downtime

13. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless @Filter Inc., its officers, directors, employees, and agents from and against any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from:

  • Your use of the API or API Data
  • Your violation of these API Terms
  • Your publication, distribution, or misrepresentation of API Data
  • Your violation of any applicable law or regulation
  • Any third-party claim related to your use of API Data

14. Suspension and Termination

14.1 Suspension by @Filter

We may suspend your API access immediately, without prior notice, if:

  • You violate these API Terms
  • Your usage patterns indicate abuse or threaten platform integrity
  • Required by law or to protect @Filter users
  • Your payment method fails and is not resolved

14.2 Effect of Termination

Upon termination or expiration:

  • Your API key is immediately revoked
  • You must cease all use of API Data obtained after the termination date
  • Data previously published under proper attribution may remain published
  • Sections 6, 7, 10, 12, 13, and 15 survive termination

15. Dispute Resolution

Disputes arising from these API Terms are governed by the dispute resolution provisions in the General Terms of Service (Section 11), including binding arbitration in Delaware, USA, and the class action waiver. For billing disputes specifically, contact support@atfilter.com within 14 days of the charge in question.

16. Modifications to These Terms

We may update these API Terms at any time. Material changes will be communicated via email to active subscribers at least 30 days before they take effect. Continued use of the API after the effective date of changes constitutes acceptance. If you do not agree to the updated terms, you may cancel your subscription before the changes take effect.
